About the Instructor Michael Kostroff is best known for his role as the un- scrupulous gang lawyer, Maury Levy, on HBO’s highly acclaimed hit, The Wire, on which he appeared for all of the show’s five seasons and for his current role on the Disney Channel’s Sonny with a Chance. Other TV credits include roles on Studio 60, The Closer, Veronica Mars, ER, West Wing, Boston Legal, Without a Trace, Trust Me, Life, Eli Stone.He toured the country in The Producers and Les Miserables. He’s a freelance writer, the author of the book Letters from Backstage: The Adventures of a Touring Stage Actor, an instructor at UCLA Extension and an advice columnist for Backstage West. Kostroff has taught improvisation, acting for kids and various workshops on “the business of the business.” He's been a frequent guest for talk-backs, interviews, Q & A's and master classes with aspiring actors and theatre students. Class History: Michael has taught “Audition Psych. 101” through San Jose Rep, AFTRA (Los Angeles), Cal State Fullerton, The Academy for New Musical Theatre, SAG (Dallas), Actors’ Equity (Washington, D.C.), The Baltimore Theatre Alliance, Center Stage (Baltimore) and as a guest instructor for several private acting teachers. His most recent AFTRA class drew over three hundred reservations. He currently teaches the workshop once a month in Hollywood.
